As with caring for any kind of animal, there are specific needs, hard work and great rewards for those who want to get the most out of their horse.
Stabled horses need exercise much more regularly than those in a field, think about how mad it would drive you to be living in a bathroom, living and dining room all rolled into one every day!
A great start to learning stabled horse care is varying the exercise location, and making sure that they get out for at least a couple of hours every day.
Training or just a run around is great for a horse’s health, and will stop them from developing bad moods.
If they don’t get a chance to expend their power and energy, horses can even become dangerous and unhealthy physically too.
As with caring for a baby, horses don’t just need you to feed them and spend time playing with them, they also need cleaning up after too! If you’re squeamish or vanity is a personal struggle, caring for a stabled horse may not be for you.
Pushing through this though and you’ll actually develop a real bond and learn the value of sacrifice as the most important part of love and care.
Mucking out a stable is a vital part of good care, and some horses make it easier than others! Generally, droppings tend to be in the same area, but some will walk it into their bedding.
Make sure they have space to lie down and move around, stable size is therefore another important factor.
Keeping the stable or field shelters clean isn’t just an aesthetic issue; a dirty shelter can actually lead to a disease in the horses hoof called thrush.
This infection is nasty business, and can even cause some horses to become lame when the hoof crumbles and becomes serious.
Cleaning the horse shelter twice a day is a great way to ensure health and happiness for your favourite animals.
