Hyundai Eon and Honda Brio are the newest offerings from the Japanese manufacturers Hyundai and Honda respectively. The two auto manufacturers are doing great in the Indian market and both are trying to outdo each other in the fiercely competitive hatchback segment. Both Eon and Brio are petrol variants and are 5-seaters. It is interesting to find out how the two fare when their two new offerings are compared against each other.
Performance and Handling
The Hyundai Eon is fitted with a 1.0-litre 68.05bhp 12V Kappa Engine mated with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox and can produce a peak power of 68.05bhp@6200rpm and a maximum torque yield of 94.14Nm@3500rpm. The Brio scores better with a bigger 1.2-litre 86.8bhp 16V i-VTEC Engine which is coupled with a 5-speed automatic transmission gearbox and can generate a maximum power of 86.8bhp@6000rpm and a peak torque output of 109Nm@4500rpm. The Eon can give a displacement of 998 cc while the Brio has a displacement capacity of 1198 cc.
The Honda Brio can offer a mileage of 13.3 kmpl on the city roads and 16.5kmpl on the expressways. The Eon, however, has higher fuel efficiency due to its ability to deliver a mileage of 15.9kmplon the city roads and 20.03kmpl on the expressways.
Talking about safety aspects, the Eon falls far behind the Brio with the absence of essential features like Anti-lock braking system, driver and passenger airbags, power adjustable exterior rear view mirror and more. The Brio is equipped with central locking, child safety locks, ABS and driver and passenger airbag among the main features. The Eon is equipped with a McPherson Strut suspension system in the front and Torsion Beam axle suspension system in the rear. The Brio has a McPherson Strut front suspension and Torsion Beam rear suspension.
Both hatchbacks have a sleek, stylish design and boast of a sophisticated feel. The Brio has a more elegant and aerodynamic exterior as compared to the Eon. It is really a close call when it comes to the exterior with both cars being excellent on their own rights, although the Brio scores more due to the presence of power adjustable exterior rear view mirror, rear window defogger, alloy wheels and integrated antenna on its exterior.
While the Eon is more affordable and fuel-efficient, the Brio is a better looker and powerful performer and also with more safety features than its competitor.
